International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI) 2018 Asia Pacific Financial Crimes Symposium

Did you know that fraud costs the Australian tax payer in excess of $1 billion each year? Did you know that only about 7% of fraud is reported? These and other interesting facts were discussed during the IAFCI 2018 Asia Pacific Financial Crimes Symposium which Michelle Novotny and Andrea Devlin attended on 26 October 2018 in Sydney.  The program included speakers from the NSW Police Force, Bank of Queensland, AUSTRAC, FraudWatch International, Dell SecureWorks, and PKF Forensic and Risk Services, discussing a broad range of topics including cybercrime and the dark web.  A number of case studies were presented demonstrating how, over time, the crime does not change but the methodologies do.   Michelle and Andrea were also speakers on the program, delivering a session on “False Documents, Identity Takeovers, Fabricated Identities… Forensic Document Examination as a preventative and investigative tool”.   If your organisation would be interested in hearing such a presentation or a general presentation on the nature and scope of forensic document examination, please contact Michelle, Andrea or Bernie on 02 9453 3033 or
